SuperStar is a mobile rhythm game developed by the NFT music company Cadenverse. It is a cheap copy of Beatstar using stolen assets and code, put up onto the app store just 10 days after Beatstar's shutdown announcement to try and capitalise on players desperate to find an alternative to Beatstar. It is widely hated within the Beatstar Mods community due to the developers stealing NextBeat's work, as well as stealing custom charts from Beatclone charters, sending spam DMs to charters asking them to chart for SuperStar, and advertising their app in Beatstar and Beatclone community spaces, breaking self-promotion rules.

App Description

The app is a buggy, ad-filled, inferior clone of Beatstar, copying the game almost entirely with some minor cosmetic edits. It violates NextBeat's copyright, as well as using songs in the game without paying the artists to legally licence them. The game currently has a rating of 2.4 stars on the Google Play Store, with players complaining about bugs, constant intrusive ads, and a lack of gameplay features.

Advertising

The developers have been known to advertise the game excessively within the Beatstar community, even when it violates rules. The community manager, Cr1992, has been banned from the CountryStar Discord server and the Beatclone subreddit for advertising there. They also named their YouTube channel SuperStar X Insane, plagiarising Beatstar X Insane's account name.

Chart Controversies

The developers of SuperStar are all banned from the Beatstar Mods Discord server, due to joining and asking the admins and developer to help them add custom songs to the game. Despite this, they have still stolen charts from the workshop channel and added them into SuperStar.

Cr1992 has also been known to send spammy DMs to numerous charters within the Beatclone community, asking them to make charts for the game. He initially asked charters to work for free, claiming that Cadenverse is only a tiny company who are just starting out and don't have much money, but quickly changed his mind when charters replied to him pointing out that the company received $4 million from investors. He then agreed to pay some charters, but it is unknown whether all the charters working for SuperStar are paid or not.

SuperStar Discord Server

The SuperStar Discord server is very inactive and mostly consists of Cr1992 adding songs to the song suggestions channel himself. He uses an alt account to try and make it look like other people are also making suggestions. The server has been known to have broken permissions, private channels that were accidentally made public, announcements pinging roles that weren't assigned to any server members, typos and spelling mistakes, and unclear rules with members being muted for rules that weren't listed anywhere.
