The original modded app released by ExternalAddress4401 has been commonly referred to as the ARM64 or ARM version (referencing the two different versions for newer and older Android devices), modded Beatstar, or just Beatstar. This version required players to uninstall the original Beatstar app from the app store first, since it was treated as the exact same app. To solve this issue, Kabon created a cloned version of the modded app, known as Beatclone, which allowed players to keep the original Beatstar app installed and the modded clone at the same time. | The original modded app released by ExternalAddress4401 has been commonly referred to as the ARM64 or ARM version (referencing the two different versions for newer and older Android devices), modded Beatstar, or just Beatstar. Beatclone can be used to refer to the cloned version of the modded Beatstar app, originally created to play the modded version of Beatstar without needing to uninstall vanilla Beatstar, or to refer to the modded Beatstar app in general. It is still available to play and download due to the private server, allowing players to still play a version of Beatstar after the shutdown.
The modded Beatstar app was developed by ExternalAddress4401, and the complete version with custom song support was first released publicly in the Beatstar Mods Discord server on March 17th 2022 for Android. It featured the ability to unlock all default Beatstar songs, including unreleased hidden songs, as well as the ability to create and play custom songs. Over time, more features would be added such as custom note colors for Perfect+, Perfect and Great taps, autoplay, and nofail mode. The iOS version was released publicly on November 12th 2024 after a testing period, and was created in collaboration between ExternalAddress4401 and zeph.
History
ExternalAddress4401 initially only started working on modding Beatstar to find a way to unlock all the default songs, and has been quoted as saying that the modded app only exists because he wanted to play Cars by Gary Numan. But he soon discovered hidden unreleased songs stored on SpaceApe's public servers. These included some songs that were never released in Beatstar such as Happy Song, and some that were released in later seasons like The Trooper.
He was banned from the Beatstar subreddit after sharing videos there of some of these unreleased songs, and went on to create the r/BeatstarLeaks community. There was also a Beatstar Leaks Discord server created by Brawl19 (different to the later Beatstar Leaks server run by Kabon and Bob), where people joined to talk about the leaked songs and download a very early version of the modded app which allowed unlocking all default songs.
Soon after this, he began working on modding the game to support custom songs. He created the Beatstar Mods Discord server along with Freddy, and it was opened to the public on March 17th when the first build of the modded app supporting custom songs was released.
Beatclone vs Beatstar/Modded Beatstar/ARM64/ARM
The original modded app released by ExternalAddress4401 has been commonly referred to as the ARM64 or ARM version (referencing the two different versions for newer and older Android devices), modded Beatstar, or just Beatstar. This version required players to uninstall the original Beatstar app from the app store first, since it was treated as the exact same app. To solve this issue, Kabon created a cloned version of the modded app, known as Beatclone, which allowed players to keep the original Beatstar app installed and the modded clone at the same time.
Over time, the term Beatclone has become more commonly used to refer to either version of the modded app, not only the cloned version. Since the Beatstar shutdown, cloning the app is no longer needed since original Beatstar is no longer functional, but a Beatclone version of the app with the Beatclone logo is still available to download in the Discord server.
